This is a song I wrote for my side project, The Mighty Chouffe, for the Electronic Saviors 2 compilation. I liked this version so much, though, that I decided to finish it off and put it here for folks who maybe wanted to hear a rock-y-er version of the big, swirling, DnB/shoegaze track that Andrew and I ended up with for TMC.
When you were bathed in light
when you were born into silence
did anybody think to ask what that might mean?
because at 3AM
among the noise and the darkness
shadows cast themselves in shapes of what could be
but it's
always.
this.
heart.
and we will sing those songs that meant so much,
we'll break those walls down one by one
it's always been this heart
when the fighting stopped
when you emerged triumphant
taking care to shield us all from what went down
because in the space
interposed between heartbeats
is every second chance in every truth you found
but it's
always.
this.
heart.
and we will fight them off, the chosen ones,
we're damaging 'til they're undone
it's always been this heart
and we will sing those songs that meant so much,
we'll break those walls down one by one
it's always been this heart
